What is freight brokering?
Brokers facilitate the transfer of cargo between shippers and carriers (trucking companies) that have the capability to do so. The freight broker can provide each shipper with the trucking capacity needed to get their freight out of the door and to its destination via a network of regional, national and international trucking companies.
Freight brokering advantages
Efficiency. Your supply chain becomes more flexible and valuable when you work with a freight broker. Your competitive edge comes from focusing your energy on what you do best. Shipping and logistics functions should be handled by a freight broker unless you specialize in that field.
- Save time, save resources, save money. As a strategic partner, a freight broker provides your shipping department with the benefits of your own, without the expense. Using a freight broker lets you focus on your business rather than invoices, audits, and training.Â
- More flexibility, more scalability. You can increase or decrease capacity based on the natural cycle of your business with the help of a freight broker partner. This means that you won’t have to worry about seasonality, irregular spikes, or sudden troughs.
- Shipping expertise. In addition to knowing best practices and having real-world experience, freight brokers specialize in shipping. It also provides visibility into your logistics and shipping reporting with the latest technology.
- It’s not just what you know, it’s who you know. In comparison to an in-house shipping department, freight brokers have extensive carrier networks. As a result, your shipping expenses can be lowered because they have buying power and can provide volume discounts. Additionally, they can provide access to capacity that would otherwise be unavailable to an internal shipping department, or would be very expensive.
- It’s a partnership. When you succeed, they succeed, and when your business grows, theirs grows as well. Your freight broker works for you and puts your interests first. That’s the definition of a partnership: benefits for both parties.
